Digital Cyber Forensics: Conference related info


The Internet has made it easier to perpetrate crimes by providing criminals an avenue for launching attacks with relative anonymity. It is evident that  illegal activities are more often buried into large volumes of data which calls for extensive analysis in order to detect crimes and collect evidence. Most of the time the investigations are of cross-border in nature, requiring coordinated policing  efforts in heterogeneous jurisdictions.

Combating Cyber Crimes in financial transactions and the role of Standards -23-10-09


Cyber Society of India and NGO body organized a workshop at Chennai on 23rd October 2009 on "Combating Cyber Crimes in financial transactions and the role of Standards". Mr T S Krishnamoorthy, former Chief Election Commissioner of India inaugurated the workshop and delivered his inaugural address on cyber crime scenario in India narrating the concept of vulnerability and explaining the vulnerable areas in computers. He stressed on the need for increasing the awareness on usage of computers. As a part of his speech, he outlined the modes operandi of Nigerian Fraud. His speech was well received.


The other speakers included prominent personalities C.L.Ramakrishnan, former DGP, who delivered the key note address, on "IT act" Mr.V.Rajendran, Secretary, CYSI, and a practicing Cyber Law Advocate, who spoke on the role and relevance of IT 2000 and the amendment, Mr.Krishnakumar, Regional Director of DNV, who described the best practices in the industry to combat cyber crime and the usefulness of the ISO 27001, ISO27002 standards, Dr.Muthukumaran, former CTO and Chief consultant, who described salient security aspects of a networked environment, Mr.S.N Ravichandran, CEO, Niligiri Chemicals, Coimbatore explained the intricacies of cyber crime investigations and Mr.M.L.Srinivasan outlined the practical implications of risks in an enterprise outlining the effects of BOT.
